Development Philosophy

Despite the challenges, the development team remained committed to creating the most ambitious Digimon Story game to date, with the largest roster, deepest mechanics, and most expansive story in the series' history.

Gameplay Systems

Core Mechanics

Battle System

  • Turn-Based Combat: Strategic, classic RPG battles
  • Symbol Encounters: Visible enemies, no random battles
  • Party Size: Deploy your team strategically
  • Type Advantages: Virus/Vaccine/Data triangle system
  • Elemental Weaknesses: Fire, Water, Wind, Thunder, Dark, Light

Digivolution System

  • Non-Linear Evolution: Multiple paths for each Digimon
  • De-Digivolution: Revert to younger forms strategically
  • Stat Retention: Talent, Bond, and cumulative stats persist
  • Personality Requirements: Match personality to unlock paths
  • Flexible Training: Access new evolutionary branches

Skill Sharing

Compatible Digimon can inherit powerful skills from each other, breaking default skill pool limitations and creating unique tactical configurations. Compatibility is based on evolution lines, attributes, or special relationships.

Experiment to discover the strongest configurations!

Jogress Evolution

Specific Digimon pairs can perform fusion attacks in battle. This powerful joint skill consumes both partners' SP per turn and can turn the tide of difficult battles with devastating power.

Classic pairs like Agumon + Gabumon available!

Character Customization

Gender Selection

Choose between Dan Yuki (male) or Kanan Yuki (female) as protagonist. Gender can be switched after initial selection, affecting some dialogue and character relationships.

No PvP Mode

Focus is entirely on single-player story experience and Digimon collection. No online multiplayer or PvP battles.

Personality System

The Personality system is one of Time Stranger's most innovative mechanics. Each Digimon has one of 16 personality types, which directly influence stat growth, skill acquisition, and even digivolution conditions.

Four Main Quadrants

⚔️

Valor

Attack & Speed focus

Digimon in the Valor group gain bonuses in ATK and SPD when leveling up. Ideal for physical attackers and fast strikers.

🧠

Wisdom

Intelligence focus

Wisdom Digimon gain INT more easily, making them perfect for magical-based attackers and spell-focused strategies.

🤝

Amicability

Defense focus

Those in the Amicability group gain DEF fastest, ideal for tanks designed to soak up damage and protect the party.

❤️

Philanthropy

Balanced growth

Forms the fourth quadrant with balanced stat distribution, suitable for versatile Digimon builds.

Personality Skills

There are 32 possible Personality Skills, and each Digimon can only have one at a time. The chance to learn a new one presents itself when their Personality subtype shifts.

Training Sets on the DigiFarm can shift personality toward specific quadrants!

Changing Personalities

While a Digimon's personality is initially determined when converted, it can be changed later through communication and training using special items in the DigiFarm. Training Sets like the Punching Bag A move your Digimon toward specific traits like Zealous personality.

DigiFarm & Training Systems

DigiFarm Overview

The DigiFarm is a powerful feature that lets you train, feed, and develop up to 30 Digimon simultaneously while you focus on the main story. Access the DigiFarm during "The Time Stranger" main quest after defeating Raremon in the "Reunions Bring Trouble" storyline by heading to the Kabukicho back alley in Shinjuku.

Training Duration

Each training regiment takes 30 minutes of in-game time. You can spend in-game money to instantly complete the training if needed.

Personality Shifts

Training Sets on the DigiFarm shift personality toward specific quadrants, allowing precise control over stat development.

Talent & Bond Systems

Talent

Talent determines your Digimon's maximum level cap. Higher talent means more levels and more stat growth opportunities.

How to Increase:

• Battle with your Digimon

• Deal final hits to enemies

• Hit enemy weak points

• Win battles without taking damage

• Train at the DigiFarm

• Evolution cycles and Load Enhancement

Bond

Bond directly impacts stat transfer during evolution. Higher bond percentage (0-100%) means more bonus stats carry over between forms.

How to Increase:

• Participate in battles (Battle Members only)

• Feed Digimon food from Item Shops

• Interact at the DigiFarm

• Use specific bonding items

Higher Bond = Better stat inheritance!

De-Digivolution Strategy

De-Digivolution isn't just about going backward—it's a powerful tool for optimization. When you revert a Digimon, they retain their Talent, cumulative stats, and Bond levels while accessing new evolutionary branches. Changing the Digimon's Personality to match its lower form is one of the requirements needed to De-Digivolve.
